In 2019, Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra, then known as The Orchestra, collaborated with acclaimed Danish pianist and composer Peter Rosendal and the folk ensemble Trio Mio to create the album “The Trickster.” This innovative project seamlessly blended traditional Danish folk music with contemporary big band jazz, resulting in a unique and captivating musical experience.
“The Trickster” features a collection of compositions and arrangements by Peter Rosendal, including interpretations of traditional tunes from Fanø and original pieces by Trio Mio members. The album showcases the versatility of the musicians, combining the rich textures of a jazz orchestra with the intricate melodies of folk music.
The album was recorded in autumn 2019 at The Village Recording studio in Copenhagen and released in 2020 under Stunt Records. It received critical acclaim, being nominated for a Danish Music Award Jazz as Album of the Year and recognized by JazzSpecial as “Jazz Album of the Year 2020.”
